Ethical Problems of Gambling

Betting can become a significant addiction and just as critical as alcoholic beverages or drug abuse. Some find gambling as a distraction acquiring them away from problems with their everyday life. A large number of examples of betting are sports betting and internet casinos, which are against the law in most declares, horse gambling, card playing, playing the lottery and today there are websites for bets online. Relating to Very little (2011), " The ability to pay for the activity through online bank transactions and credit cards plays a role in addictive on the web gambling” (para. 3). For people who have an addiction to gambling, free online games and websites, makes it more difficult for them to avoid the urge to gamble and also making it easier to enable them to gamble, simply because can now undertake it in the personal privacy of their home. All of these good examples can prove difficult. The whole idea of gambling can cause an array of challenges for the consumer and their family and friends by leading to ethical and moral concerns for all involved. With betting there can be a comprehensive amount of debt, loss in employment, laying, stealing, mental anguish, not merely for the participant with the gambling, but also for their families as well. These activities and their outcomes can sometimes tear families aside. Gambling may also cause quite a few ethical complications for society as a whole. Wagering can be a magnet for offense, ruin work ethic, and attract prostitution. Value J. (2006) stated " Crime naturally rises 3 to 4 years pursuing the opening of the casino as problem and pathological gamblers begin to consume their resources” (p. 1). With a individual's serious dependence on gambling, they will use any means necessary to feed all their addiction. Some will dedicate assault, take advantage of, and may even get as far as killing to get the cash they need to fulfill their needs. Together with the building of casinos and even illegal betting, crime rates in those areas seem to escalate. In an article entitled " Calculating Outcomes: The Functional Approach to Ethics”, the creators point out that utilitarianism needs that we assign values towards the harms and benefits as a result of our actions and evaluate them with the harm and benefits that might result whenever we choose distinct actions. Andre, C. and Velasquez, Meters. (n. deb. ). A large number of gamblers justify their works of deception through utilitarianism. They think only about their own happiness and not how gambling is destroying the lives with their family members. They look only to the great that a key win can accomplish and do not weigh the harm their very own actions happen to be causing.

The principle of honest utilitarianism opened by James Bentham. In utilitarianism a single must decide that if an action is correct, it will enhance happiness for all those involved. A task is found to be inappropriate when it does not bring happiness to any person. Utilitarianism focuses more for the consequences of the action as opposed to the motives from the agent. That places the focus of proper and incorrect solely for the outcomes with the action, certainly not on the acts per say. It takes into account the pursuits of others, prior to interest individuals performing the action. When a person practices ethical egoism, it could be declared what they want is correct and something that interferes with what they wish is considered wrong. For some this could seem self-centered. As stated simply by Mosser, T. (2010) " Selfishness, " for the egoist, is just used to know that people action, or ought to act, inside their own self–interest. The egoist thinks staying selfish can be a good thing (Section 1 . 8, Paragraph 22). Ethical egoism is based on do it yourself interest. In accordance to Regis, E (1980) an moral egoist would view which a person's patterns and activities should be entirely based on the interest of their own. Everyone should care for their own pursuits. I feel that an ethical...
